Turkey expresses concern after Black Sea tanker attacks

(MENAFN) Türkiye has expressed deep concern following attacks on two commercial tankers in the Black Sea, emphasizing the significant risks these incidents pose to regional safety and stability. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday, noting that the attacks on the Gambia-flagged vessels KAIROS and VIRAT occurred within Türkiye's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), raising serious concerns about both navigation safety and environmental security.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli stated that these incidents, occurring within Türkiye's EEZ, endanger not only the safety of life and property but also the environmental integrity of the region. "These attacks have posed serious risks to navigation, life, property, and environmental safety in the Black Sea," Keceli said in a statement on the social media platform X.

Keceli also highlighted that Türkiye is in ongoing communication with relevant parties to prevent the conflict between Russia and Ukraine from further escalating across the Black Sea, emphasizing the importance of avoiding any negative impact on Türkiye’s economic interests and activities in the region.
